Cooledtured Internship
Role: UI/UX Designer Intern
Duration: 3 months
Industry: E-commerce
Tools: Figma, Google Forms
During my time at Cooledtured I helped with their website redesign. I redesigned the videos page, brands and fandoms page, the blogs page, and pitched an original design idea to be added to their companies website. During this internship I completed UX research, User surveys, User interviews, and UI Design to improve Cooledtured’s website. The accolade I received during this internship was a letter of recommendation based on my top performance.
User research
User Survey
I created a Google Form where I created the screener survey for our research. Other interns also created their own survey. My form was chosen to be used by management. I was able to recruit 3 users for the screener survey. I was the only intern to be able to recruit users for this screener survey. This screener survey was used to narrow out participants in the user interviews all interns conducted.
User Interviews
I conducted three user interviews and took notes for two other user interviews conducted by other interns.
Key Takeaway 1
Users found the website to be targeted towards a younger crowd; when management wanted to reach those 25+.
Key Takeaway 2
Users wanted a more adult feel to the website while remaining a bit youthful.
Key Takeaway 3
Users found the website to be too color heavy and requested less colors on the website.
Key Takeaway 4
Users found that some text on the website was too big or too bold for the information that it was. Stating the text needing to be fixed and hierarchy being more priotized.
What did Cooledtured look like before my improvements?
P.S. You may be wondering why the pandas are in the following redesign. Well, that’s because it was an illustration the CEO made and is near and dear to him so I wanted to include it into Cooledtured’s brand identity!
Video Page Redesign
For the video pages, I made several visual and aesthetic improvements. Previously, the Cooledtured video page was too large, spilling over into the margins. The colors had excessive contrast, and overall, the design wasn't very user-friendly. Here's how I addressed those issues and what the page looks like now.
Fandoms & Brands Pages Redesign
For the Fandoms and Brands pages, I aimed to maintain a consistent visual style across the site while also enhancing the design with a more polished look. This includes incorporating minimalist elements while still capturing Cooledtured's fun character and unique style. These pages serve as the main areas where users can shop for Cooledtured products.
Blog Page Redesign
For the blog page redesign, I wanted to add more playful elements. To achieve this, I designed the articles to resemble cards, which aligns with Cooledtured’s identity as an anime e-commerce store.
Design Pitch to Management
For my pitch to management, I designed a new feature to be included on the community page of the website. The idea is to create a fandom rating system that can recommend curated products based on those ratings. This feature will be particularly useful for gift-givers who may not be familiar with anime, movies, TV shows, video games, or pop culture. The gift-giver could rate the fandoms their recipient enjoys, and the system would then recommend products tailored to those preferences.
My Takeaways
Collaboration: Work closely with developers, designers, and stakeholders to align UX goals with business objectives and technical feasibility.
Documentation: Document design decisions, user research findings, and usability test results to facilitate knowledge sharing and future iterations.
Consistency: Maintain consistency in design elements, typography, and interactions throughout the website.
Visual Hierarchy: Use visual hierarchy effectively to guide users' attention and emphasize important content.
Responsive Design: Ensure the website is fully responsive across all devices to enhance accessibility and user experience.
User-Centered Design: Always prioritize the needs and preferences of users throughout the design process.
Usability Testing: Regularly conduct usability tests to identify pain points and gather feedback for iterative improvements.
My Accolades
Received a letter of recommendation for outstanding performance as a top performer during my internship.
